On a brisk December Saturday a few weeks back, I had the good fortune to join the PAMVET (Proud American Military Veteran) breakfast club at Golden Corral, to share updates on affordable home ownership through Loveland Habitat for Humanity. I met more wonderful veterans in 30 minutes than I had in a lifetime, and their warmth and enthusiasm was energizing. How lucky we are for the service and sacrifice of so many brave men and women who call Loveland home.
Later that morning, Loveland Habitat was dedicating a new home. Home dedications celebrate the completion of many months of hard work, when we officially present the homeowner with the keys to their new home. Habitat does not give homes for free; Habitat homeowners help build their home, take classes to prepare them for success and pay for their house with an affordable mortgage. The dedication was crowded with volunteers, family, friends and new neighbors all gathered to celebrate and welcome the family to their new home and share a lot of laughter, tears and hugs.
It was a truly memorable Saturday, and why I love my job. Loveland is a special place because of the people that call it home. It’s why I #liveloveland.
