Love Letter: The town that loves you back

Which peak is Long’s? What’s with all the sculptures around town? What exactly is a “loose meat burger”? Why so many hearts displayed all over town? These, and many more, were questions swirling in my head a little over three years ago as my family and I drove down highway 34 toward downtown to explore Loveland for the first time.

Back in March of 2016, my family and made the decision to leave the comforts and familiarity of Oklahoma for Colorado. Upon arriving, we realized we knew very little of Loveland. The moment we arrived, we started exploring all the city had to offer. We took a stroll though Benson Sculpture Park with the kids intent on capturing Pokémon, then headed over to Door 222 for an amazing meal. Bellies full but still thirsty, we ducked into Loveland Aleworks and immediately fell in love with the friendly staff, the open air, and their mouth watering imperial stout. My wife and I looked at each other and smiled. We were going to fit in here very nicely.

In the months and years to come, we have embraced this city with open hearts and open arms. In return, the city has responded in kind. Everywhere we go, we are met with smiles, hugs, how-do-you-dos, and a genuineness we still cherish to this day. We came to know that Loveland truly is a city with a huge heart.

Nowadays, you can find us hiking the trail out at Devil’s Backbone, at an Eagle’s game at the BEC, snagging a crafty beverage at Wicked Tequila Room, sharing a glass of deliciousness at Sweetheart Winery, getting in a round at Mariana Butte, even participating in Dancing with the Stars last summer. We love this city and it loves us back. We #liveloveland each and every day, cultivating some of the closest friendships we’ve ever had, and we hope to have the privilege to continue doing so for years to come!
