Ethereal Icons by Erin Leeper: Artist Demonstration and Reception

Ethereal icons are joyful, contemporary versions of well known, traditional Holy Cards that portray Jesus, Mary, Angels and all the Saints, originally intended to inspire contemplation and give comfort through each one’s specific attributions. Unique composition and use of symbols dictate the intended meaning of each painting, with Leeper’s own modifications emphasizing the strength of the female image, and bringing the art form into a contemporary format. The evocative potential within each portrayal – of love, loss and redemption – are universally understood, yet deeply personal. Her current project is the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Erin Leeper is a self-taught, Northern Colorado artist whose work has sold as far away as the UK.
