Saturday is February 29, which means we get an extra day this year to enjoy fun around town with family and friends!
Physics & Foam: It’s About Time
Everyone knows about Leap Day but did you know that we also have Leap Seconds? Telling time has always been important for humans; from ancient cultures wanting to know when to plant and harvest crops to modern humans depending on atomic clocks so that Google Maps works properly to the future where we’ll have to figure out how time zones work in space. Join us on this extra day of the year as Dr. Charles Kuehn from the UNC Department of Physics and Astronomy tells us all about time. Learn the answers to such questions as why do we have Leap Days and Leap Seconds, where do months come from, what is the difference between a lunar and a solar calendar, why are accurate clocks needed for GPS, and how will we tell time in space. Cool science, great beer, and trivia for prizes; there isn’t a better way to spend the extra day of the year.
